Pilgrims fall to NESCAC opponents
New England College men’s ice hockey dropped two games this past weekend to NESCAC opponents including Friday evening’s loss to Williams College and Saturday afternoon’s loss to Middlebury College.
In Friday evening’s loss to Williams the Ephs scored early in the first period as Matt Masucci would put them on top just 6:25 into the opening period. The two teams would battle through the remainder of the first and the entire second period scoreless as Williams would hold the slight 29-24 lead in shots on net.
Williams would break the game open early in the third period as the Ephs would score two goals within a minute of each other to go up 3-0 with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation. The Pilgrims would get on the board as Simon Laudon-Sorlin would score a power-play goal at the 13:42 mark. NEC would cut the lead to 3-2 just minutes later as Johan Granath would net his third goal of the season at the 15:13 mark. Williams would play tough defense in the final minutes of the game and tack on an empty-netter late ad the Ephs would edge the Pilgrims 4-2.
In Saturday’s 4-2 loss to Middlebury College The Panthers would score three second period goals to lead 3-0 with 9:29 remaining in the second. NEC would respond as Sam Dielwart would score his first goal of the season assisted by Dylan Exton and Jared Mullen at the 10:47 mark. The Pilgrims would cut the Panther lead to just 3-2 right before intermission as Dielwart would score again assisted by Exton and Mullen with 52 seconds remaining in the second.
The Panthers would regain the two goal lead early in the third period netting a power-play goal just 3:02 in. The Pilgrims would try to battle back offensively but Panther goalie would stop all 13 third period shots on net as Middlebury would go on to secure the 4-2 victory.
In goal for NEC was Aaron Harvey who totaled 77 saves on the weekend.
