Pilgrims looking to build off successful '07-08 season
New England College women’s ice hockey finished their 2007-08 season with an impressive 15-11-1 overall record, tying the Pilgrim single-season win record, and an ECAC East record of 10-8-1. The Pilgrims earned their sixth trip to the ECAC East Playoffs including a trip to the ECAC East Championship for just the second time in program history.
The Pilgrims will have huge shoes to fill this season as they lost two senior starters to graduation. NEC will have to do without four-year starter Elizabeth Ross who finished her career with a program-best 60 goals and 130 total points. Also missing from the lineup this season will be forward Shauna Pires who played in 27 games last season and scored 10 goals and dished out two assists.
The Pilgrims will return the bulk of their offense from last season, an offense that finished third in the ECAC East in scoring. Returning will be senior captain Sarah Tracey. Tracey (Aurora, Ontario) finished last season first on the team in scoring and tied for second in the ECAC East in total points finishing with 45 points including 20 goals and a team-high 25 assists. Also returning on offense for the Pilgrims is senior assistant captain Sarah Graham. Graham (Brampton, Ontario) led the team in goals last season and was ranked second in the ECAC East in goals finishing the season with 24. Senior Jamie Collins (Reading, Mass.) will also make an impact at the forward position. Last season Collins scored nine goals, including a conference-leading five game-winning goals and dished out 16 assists. Rounding out the offense will be junior Stefanie Lewis (Windsor, Nova Scotia) and sophomore Rachel White (Arlington, Mass.) Lewis finished last season with 17 points including eight goals and nine assists, while White was fourth in the conference in freshman scoring finishing with 11 goals and 14 assists.
Leading the Pilgrim defense will be senior assistant captain Emily Tanguay. Tanguay (Manchester, N.H.) led all NEC defenseman in assists finished with 13 on the season. Defender Danielle Taylor (Raynham, Mass.) will also return. Taylor led all NEC defenseman in goals finishing with five on the season, including three game-winners. Rounding out the defense will be junior Jana Schneider (Skaneateles, N.Y.) and sophomores Brianna Gerrior (Gloucester, Mass.) and Emily Kuchta (Norwalk, Conn.)
The Pilgrims will have some new faces on the ice as head coach Jackie MacMillan will look to first-year goalkeeper Teraysa White (Belgrade, Maine) to make an immediate impact on defense. First-year forwards Samantha Phillips (Scottsdale, Ariz.,) Chelsea Torrico (Mt. Washington, Mass.) and Taryn Moffat (Montrose, B.C.) will all contribute to the offensive attack for the Pilgrims this season.
