Pilgrims pull out double overtime win over Eagles
Freshman Tamra Comerford (Fremont, N.H.) knocked home a Samantha Levine (Windham, Maine) pass with 4:15 remaining in double overtime to give New England College a 1-0 victory over host Daniel Webster College in a regional women’s soccer matchup Thursday at Eagle Field.
Comerford’s team-leading sixth of the season helped the Pilgrims (7-8) halt a two-game slide as NEC won for the sixth time this season by a 1-0 score.
Amy Waller (Berlin, Mass.) made 11 saves for the Eagles (4-8), who dropped their third straight. Kerry Hughes (Wallkill, N.Y.) made seven saves for NEC.
The Eagles almost won the game in the first overtime period as Kacie Lang (Raymond, N.H.) sent a 10-yarder from the far right side that beat Hughes up high, but the ball ricocheted off the top crossbar and bounced out, preserving the scoreless tie.
The Pilgrims finished with a 21-15 total shots advantage.
