Pilgrims use two first half goals to lift them to victory

New England College field hockey grabbed their first win of 2009 as the Pilgrims would net two first half goals lifting them past Clark University 2-1 Saturday afternoon. With the win the Pilgrims even their overall record to 1-1.


The Pilgrims wouldn’t waste much time getting on the board as first-year forward Miranda Tinsman would net her first collegiate goal assisted by Amanda Namie just 2:27 into the game.  Clark would respond seven minutes later as Katherine Rowe would net a goal knotting the game at 1-1. 

 

 

NEC’s leading scorer Emily Kuchta would give the Pilgrims the 2-1 lead at the 24:27 mark in the first  as she punched in a pass from senior midfielder Ashley Simula. 

 

The two teams would battle evenly through much of the second half as neither team would be able to muster a goal and the Pilgrims would hold on for the 2-1 victory.

 

New England College outshot the Cougars 18-15 and also held an edge in penalty corners (9-2).

 

Picking up the win in net for the Pilgrims was Mary Roux who finished the afternoon with 10 saves.
