Salve Regina’s Allegra Lovoy (Charlestown, R.I.) scored 18 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds leading the Seahawks past New England College 80-64 Saturday afternoon. With the win the Seahawks improve to 13-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 6-12 on the season and 0-7 in conference play.

The Pilgrims would jump out to an early lead scoring the first six points of the game but the Seahawks would answer with a 12-0 run to go up 18-11 midway through the opening half.  Salve Regina would shoot an impressive 59% from the field in the opening half as the Seahawks would extend their lead to 17, up 37-20 with 5:44 remaining.  NEC would respond late in the period with a small run of their own getting within 11 points trailing just 30-41 heading into halftime.

The two teams would battle evenly through the opening minutes of the second half but Salve Regina would slowly regain their 17 point lead up 63-46 with 8:58 remaining in regulation.  NEC would chip away cutting the lead to just eight points with five minutes on the clock but the Salve offense would hold strong as Lindsay Shorey would hit two jumpers late to solidify the 80-64 victory.

In addition to Lovoy, the Seahawks were led by Erin Phillips (Morristown, N.J.) who led all scorers finishing the afternoon with 25 points.  Salve Regina’s Lindsay Shorey (Ashland, Mass.) chipped in 19 points and had six rebounds for the Seahawks.

Leading the way for NEC was Ashley Hutton (Lebanon, N.H.) who finished with a team-high 24 points. LaShawnda Wilson (Burlington, Vt.) finished with 11 points and six rebound, while Kendall Wolfson (Lyndeborough, N.H.) was the only other Pilgrims in double-figures scoring 10 on the afternoon.
