Seahawks take two from Pilgrims - Baseball
New England College baseball dropped two games to the Salve Regina Seahawks Saturday afternoon in Henniker. With the two wins the Seahawks improve to 16-12-1 overall and move to 6-7-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC.) The loss drops the Pilgrims to 5-15 overall and 1-9 in the TCCC.
In game one the two teams would each score a run in the first inning as the Pilgrims would hold Salve close allowing the Seahawks just three runs in the next three innings and head into the sixth down just 4-1. Salve Regina would explode for four runs in the sixth on a Riley Diaz grand slam taking an 8-1 lead heading into the seventh. The Seahawks would add a run in the seventh to make it 9-1 and the Pilgrims could muster just one run in the home half of the seventh losing 9-2.
Six different players had a hit for the Pilgrims including Daniel Pratt who doubled in a run. NEC’s Jimmy Hoyt singled and scored and Scott Miller doubled for the Pilgrims. On the mound for NEC was Daniel Pratt who allowed six earned runs in six innings of work.
In game two Salve Regina would pound out 21 hits and score 19 runs over seven innings on their way to the 19-2 win over the Pilgrims. The Seahawks would score five runs in both the first and second inning to build and early 10-1 lead and add four runs in the third and two in both the fourth and fifth as 16 of the 21 hits where singles.
NEC’s Daniel Pratt would pick up both runs batted in for the Pilgrims as he singled twice. NEC’s Scott Miller would pick up two hits in game two including a triple and both Jimmy Hoyt and P.J. Crowley would score for the Pilgrims.
