Softball drops two one-run games
New England College softball lost two one-run games to the Eastern Nazarene Crusaders Wednesday afternoon in Quincy. The two losses drop the Pilgrims to 3-15 overall and 2-8 in the TCCC.
The Pilgrims would take the early lead in game one of the double-header exploding for four runs in the top half of the first inning. Eastern Nazarene would respond scoring six runs in the bottom half of the third on four homeruns to take the 6-5 lead. The Pilgrims would score two runs in the fourth but the Crusaders would regain the one run lead scoring two runs of their own in the sixth. NEC would take a one-run lead heading into the home half of the seventh inning, scoring two runs in the seventh, but the Crusaders would score two runs of their own to edge the Pilgrims 10-9.
Leading the way for NEC was Amanda Lester and Rachel White who each finished with three hits, two runs scored and two runs batted in. NEC’s Kristen Purdy singled twice and picked up two runs batted in, while Alex Sacco doubled in a run for the Pilgrims.
In game two the Crusaders would grab the early lead scoring a run in the bottom of the first but NEC would battle back scoring three runs in the top of the second taking the 3-1 lead. The two teams would exchange runs in the middle innings as the Pilgrims would head into the bottom of the seventh up 5-2. The Crusaders would score three runs in the bottom of the seventh as Rauchfuss would hit a two-out homerun to force extra innings. The Pilgrims would fail to score in the eighth as the Crusaders would take advantage of a Pilgrim passed ball scoring the game winning in the bottom half of the inning to capture the 6-5 win.
Leading the way for NEC was Amanda Lester and Jennifer Cloutier who each picked up two hits for the Pilgrims.
