New England College softball dropped a pair of conference games Thursday afternoon losing to Gordon College 4-3 and 7-2 on the campus of Gordon College in Wenham. The loss evens NEC’s conference record to 2-2 and drops the Pilgrims to 3-9 overall.


 

In game one the Pilgrims would jump out to the 1-0 lead scoring in the bottom of the second but Gordon would plate three runs in the top half of the fifth to take the late 3-1 lead.  The Pilgrims would respond tying the game at 3-3 in the bottom half of the fifth but the Scots would score what would be the game-winning run in the top of the sixth inning edging the Pilgrims 4-3.

 

Leading the way for NEC is game one was Deanna Brayton who went 3-for-4 at the plate, including two doubles and a run scored.  NEC’s Alexandria Sacco drove in two runs hitting her first homerun of the season in the fifth inning and Elizabeth Ross finished with two hits and a run scored.  On the mound for NEC was Deanna Brayton who did not allow and earned run in just over four innings of work.

 

In game two it would be Gordon who would start the scoring early picking up a run in the top half of the first inning to take the 1-0 lead.  The Pilgrims would score two in the bottom of the third grabbing the 3-1 advantage but Gordon would score six unanswered runs combined in the fourth and fifth inning on their way to the 7-2 win.

 

Five different Pilgrims had hits in game two including Jessica Chisholm who belted a two-run homerun in the third inning.  On the mound for NEC was Bethany Forshaw who allowed six earned runs on nine hits.
