Softball splits with Roger Williams
New England College softball split a double-header with the Roger Williams University Hawks Sunday afternoon in Bristol. The split moves the Pilgrims to 5-17 overall and 4-10 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference.
In game one the Hawks would score in each of the six innings, including three runs in both the fourth and the sixth, capturing the 11-3 win over the Pilgrims. The Pilgrims scored a run in the first inning off an RBI single from Jessica Chisholm (Stoughton, Mass.) scoring Liz Ross (W. Hartford, Conn.) NEC would tack on two more runs in the fourth inning as Amanda Lester (Columbia, Conn.) and Sierra Thibeault (Brunswick, Maine) would start the inning off with back-to-back doubles and Kristen Purdy (Candia, N.H.) would follow with a single.
Leading the way for NEC was Kristen Purdy who singled twice for the Pilgrims. NEC’s Sierra Thibeault and Liz Ross each picked up an RBI and a run scored in game one.
In game two the two teams would battle back and forth exchanging runs through the opening three innings before NEC would explode for seven runs in the top half of the fourth and two in the fifth, cruising to the 12-4 victory.
Leading the way for NEC was Jessica Chisholm who was 3-for-4 in game two with three runs scored and three runs batted in. NEC’s Rachel White (Arlington, Mass.) finished with two hits and three runs batted in, while Bethany Forshaw (Waterford, Conn.) also finished with two hits and two runs batted in.
Picking up the win on the mound for the Pilgrims was Deanna Brayton (Queensbury, N.Y.) who pitched a complete game allowing four earned runs on ten hits.
