Softball sweeps visiting Regis College

The New England College Pilgrims would combine for 21 runs beating the visiting Regis College Pride twice Wednesday afternoon in Henniker. With the sweep the Pilgrims improve to 9-21 overall and 7-13 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference. The losses drop the Pride to 9-24 overall and 4-18 in the TCCC.


 

NEC would grab the early lead in game one scoring four runs in both the first and second inning building an 8-0 lead heading into the third.  Regis College would get two runs back in the top half of the fourth cutting the Pilgrim lead to 8-2.  The two teams would battle through a scoreless fifth inning but NEC’s Amanda Lester (Columbia, Conn.) would double in Alexandria Sacco (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Jessica Chisholm (Stoughton, Mass.) in the bottom of the sixth to give the Pilgrims the 10-2 win.

 

Leading the way for New England College was Jessica Chisholm who finished with three hits, three runs batted in and two runs scored. NEC’s Amanda Lester doubled three times and Rachel White (Arlington, Mass.) finished with a double and three runs batted in.  Picking up the win on the mound for NEC was Kristen Purdy (Candia, N.H.) who allowed two runs on four hits in six innings of work.

 

Leading the way for Regis College was Shannon Hurley (Billerica, Mass.) who singled and doubled.  Regis College’s Erin Johnson (West Springfield, Mass.) singled in a run for the Pride.

 

In game two the Pilgrims would plate three runs in the first and five in the second grabbing the early 8-0 lead.  Regis would string together a couple hits in the third and get a run back but the Pilgrims would score three runs in the bottom half of the third to head into the fourth up 11-1.  Neither team would score in the fourth and Regis would make a run late scoring two runs in the top of the fifth but the Pilgrims would get the final out and capture the 11-3 win.

 

Leading the way for NEC was Alexandria Sacco who finished with three hits, including a homerun and four runs batted in. NEC’s Jessica Chisholm, Deanna Brayton (Queensbury, N.Y.) and Liz Ross (W. Hartford, Conn.) each picked up two hits for the Pilgrims.  Picking up the win on the mound was Bethany Forshaw who pitched the complete game allowing three earned runs on five hits.

 

Leading the way for Regis College was Erin Johnson who singled in two runs and Rachel Cavella (W. Roxbury, Mass.) who singled and scored twice for the Pride.
