Tanguay leads Pilgrims past Nor'easters

Senior attack Emily Tanguay netted both Pilgrim goals in the overtime period lifting the Pilgrims past the University of New England Nor’easters 14-13 Saturday afternoon in Biddeford. The win is the first of the season for the Pilgrims who improve to 1-4 overall and even their conference record at 1-1.


 

The Nor’easters outscored the Pilgrims 4-1 in the final 20 minutes of the opening half heading into the intermission up 6-4.  NEC would respond in the second up 12-10 with 2:10 remaining in regulation.  UNE would force overtime netting two goals in the final two minutes of the game, including one by Ginny Lee with just 32 seconds on the clock.

 

Tanguay would come up huge in overtime netting a goal just two minutes into overtime and adding an insurance goal late as the Pilgrims would hold on for the 14-13 victory.

 

Leading the way for NEC was Brandi Vittum who netted five goals on the afternoon.  NEC’s Emily Kuchta finished with two goals and three assists, while Casey McFarland netted two goals for the Pilgrims.  Picking up the win in net for the Pilgrims was Alexandra DiRico who finished with 15 saves on the afternoon.
