Visiting UNE picks up shutout win over Pilgrims
University of New England men’s soccer forward Kevin Tarr (Hermon, Maine) would head in the lone goal of the game in the 51st minutes to lift the visiting Nor’easters past the New England College Pilgrims 1-0 Saturday afternoon. With the win the Nor’easters improve to 8-4-0 overall and 5-3-0 in conference play. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 5-6-1 on the season and 3-4-1 in the conference.
UNE’s Kevin Tarr would break the scoring drought early in the second half scoring what would eventually prove to be the game-winner heading in a cross from Jason Marks (E. Lyme, Conn.) at the 51:25 mark.
NEC’s best scoring opportunity came in the 69th minute as first-year forward Paul McLean (E. Hartford, Conn.) would have a shot hit the post and bounce out. UNE finished the game out shooting NEC 13-6 on the afternoon and held the 4-2 advantage in corner opportunities.
Picking up the shutout win in net for UNE was Jon Planer (Yarmouth, Maine) who recorded three saves on the afternoon. In goal for NEC was Pat Harkin (Scituate, R.I.) who finished with six saves.
The Pilgrims return to action on Monday, Oct. 12 when they travel to take on non-conference opponent Daniel Webster College at 3:30 p.m. The Nor’easters will travel to take on conference opponent Colby-Sawyer College on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 3:30 p.m.
