Women's Basketball cruises past Southern Vermont
New England College’s Katie Plankey (Columbia, Conn.) led all scorers finishing with 22 points to lead the Pilgrims past the visiting Southern Vermont College Mountaineers 86-58 Thursday evening. With the win the Pilgrims improve to 5-3 overall, while the loss drops the Mountaineers to 2-4 on the season.
Southern Vermont would open the game with the early 7-2 lead but NEC would battle back tying the game at 11-11 just six minutes into the half. The Mountaineers would battle back in the final minutes finishing the half on a 5-0 run of their own and head into halftime trailing just 25-31.
New England would storm out of halftime building an 18 point lead up 51-33 just eight minutes into the second half. Southern Vermont would cut the lead to 13 points but that is as close as the Mountaineers would get as the Pilgrims would shoot 22-for-28 from the foul line in the second and cruise to the 86-58 victory.
