Women's Basketball falls to conference opponent Nichols
Nichols College’s MaryLynn Skarzenski (Woodbridge, N.J.) would score a team-high 16 points and pull down a team-high eight rebounds leading the Bison past NEC 70-58 Saturday afternoon. With the win the Bison improve to 12-2 overall and remain undefeated in conference play with a record of 3-0. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 6-8 overall and 0-3 in TCCC play.
The two
teams would battle back-and-forth through the opening 12 minutes of play before
the Bison would use an 11-4 run and go up 26-11 with just over seven minutes
remaining in the half. The Pilgrims
would try to battle back late in the half but the Bison defense would hold NEC
to just 19% shooting from the field and head into halftime up 34-19.
Nichols would continue to control much of the play early in the second half extending their lead to 25, up 56-31 with just over nine minutes remaining in the game. NEC would cut the lead to 16 points with four minutes remaining but the Nichols defense would hold strong as the Bison would go on to capture the 70-58 win.
In addition to Skarzenski, Nichols was led by Ashley Robidoux (Milford, Mass.) who finished with 12 points and Jessica Nelson (N. Providence, R.I.) who chipped in 11 points and had seven rebounds.
Leading the way for NEC was LaShawnda Wilson (Burlington, Vt.) who finished with a team-high 16 points and grabbed five rebounds. NEC’s Katie Plankey (Columbia, Conn.) chipped in 13 points and Hallie Price (S. Beach, Ore.) scored 10 for the Pilgrims.
