Women's Lacrosse captures second straight conference victory
New England College women’s lacrosse won their second straight conference game beating the Nichols College Bison 18-8 Tuesday night in Dudley. With the win the Pilgrims improve to 2-4 on the season and even their conference record at 2-2. The loss drops the Bison to 1-3 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
The Pilgrims would come out of the gate on fire scoring the first five goals, including two in the opening minute, building the early 5-0 lead. NEC would continue to control much of the offense play in the opening half as they would hold the 19-9 advantage in shots and head into halftime with the 14-3 advantage.
The Bison would respond early in the second opening the half on a 3-0 run but the Pilgrims defense would hold strong allowing just eight goals on the evening and cruising to the 18-8 victory.
Leading the way for NEC was Brandi Vittum (Reading, Vt.) who scored six goals and dished out two assists. NEC’s Jodie Dresser (Keene, N.H) netted four goals, while attack Emily Tanguay (Manchester, N.H.) finished with three scores on the evening.
Splitting time in goal for the Pilgrims was Alexandra DiRico (Limerick, Pa.) who allowed just three goals and made three saves and Amanda Murdock (Bedford, N.H.) who stopped two shots.
