Western New England College’s Jeanmarie Barbato (Huntington Station, N.J.) and Lindsey Fenton (Pelham, Mass.) each scored seven goals as the Golden Bears beat the New England College Pilgrims 24-7 Thursday afternoon in women’s lacrosse action. The win improves the Golden Bears to 11-4 overall and 6-2 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 3-9 on the season and 3-4 in conference play.

Western New England would open the scoring early as Barbato would net a goal just 1:13 into the opening quarter.  The Golden Bears would go on to score the next four goals, including three by Barbato, building a 5-0 lead with 24:29 remaining in the first.  The Pilgrims would get on the board as Brandi Vittum (Woodstock, Vt.) would score and Jodie Dresser (Keene, N.H.) would find the goal putting the Pilgrims down just four goals. WNEC would battle back outscoring NEC 8-1 in the final 18:55 of the first half and head into the intermission up 15-4.

The second half would be much of the same as the Golden Bears would continue to control much of the offense.  The two teams would exchange goals early but again WNEC’s offense would prove too tough as the Golden Bears would outscore NEC 8-2 in the final 20 minutes, cruising to the 24-7 victory.

In addition to Barbato and Fenton, Western New England College was led by Kayte Devine (New Fairfield, Conn.) who finished with three goals and two assists.  WNEC’s Jillian Carcciolo (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) chipped in two goals and dished out an assist for the Golden Bears.

Leading the way for New England College was Brandi Vittum who finished with five goals.

Picking up the win in goal for Western New England College was Marissa Bonitatibus (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) who finished with four saves in 30 minutes of work.  In goal for New England College was Alexandra DiRico (Limerick, Pa.) who finished with nine saves.
