Women's Lacrosse falls short in match-up with WNEC
New England College women’s lacrosse outscored the Golden Bears of Western New England 9-7 in the second half but fell short falling 14-15 Wednesday afternoon in Springfield.
The Golden Bears would control much of the opening half outscoring the Pilgrims 7-2 in the opening 17 minutes of the game. NEC would make a run late scoring three of the final four goals of the half heading into the intermission down just 8-5.
The Pilgrims would come out on fire in the second scoring the first two goals and cutting the Golden Bear lead to just 8-7. WNEC would respond going on a 7-3 scoring run midway through the half building a 15-10 lead with 9:41 remaining in regulation. NEC wouldn’t give up as the Pilgrim offense would net four goals in the final two minutes of the game but would run out of time as the Golden Bears would hold on for the 15-14 win.
Leading the way for NEC was Emily Tanguay (Manchester, N.H.) who scored a game-high six goals. NEC’s Casey McFarland (Webster, N.H.) and Brandi Vittum (Reading, Vt.) each scored three goals and dished out an assist for the Pilgrims.
In net for NEC was Alexandra DiRico (Limerick, Pa.) who finished with an impressive 17 saves on the afternoon.
