New England College women’s soccer used impressive defense to help muster a 1-1 overtime tie with in-state rival Plymouth State Saturday afternoon in Plymouth. With the tie the Pilgrims move to 0-1-1 on the season and will look for their first win on Sunday when they host Emmanuel College at 1:00 p.m.

The Panthers would get on the board first as Lauren Lavery would convert on a Plymouth penalty shot just seven minutes into the contest. The two teams would battle the remainder of the opening half scoreless as Plymouth would hold the 12-1 advantage in shots.

NEC sophomore Amy Ordile would net the Pilgrims’ first goal of the season at the 67 minute mark, knotting the game at 1-1.  The Panthers would continue to control much of the offense out shooting the Pilgrims 25-3 on the afternoon, including two overtime opportunities.

NEC keeper Kerry Hughes came up huge for the Pilgrims finishing the afternoon with seven saves, including two in overtime.
