The New England College Women’s Soccer Team opened their season with a tough 1-3 loss to Emmanuel College Saturday afternoon in Boston. The loss is the first for the Pilgrims to the Emmanuel College Saints in four match-ups.

NEC would jump out to an early lead as senior forward Debbie Lyons (Wilmington, Mass.) would net her first goal of the season on a breakaway just 13:56 into the contest.

The Saints would answer as Kristen Goncalves would score just six minutes later to tie the game at 1-1.  Emmanuel would tack on another goal at the 22:49 mark to take a 2-1 advantage heading into the second half.

The Saints would control much of the offense in the second half of play as Emmanuel would go on to outshoot NEC 27-8 on the afternoon.  Emmanuel’s Kristina Marik would give the Saints some breathing room scoring at the 62:58 mark giving the Saints the 3-1 advantage.  The Pilgrims would try to battle back but Saints’ keeper Laureyn Furtney would keep NEC off the board as Emmanuel would hold on for the 3-1 win.

In goal for the Pilgrims was Kerry Hughes (Wallkill, N.Y.) who finished the afternoon with 11 saves.
