Emmanuel College women’s soccer opened their 2009 campaign blanking New England College 3-0 Sunday afternoon in Henniker. The win improves the Saints to 1-0-0 on the season. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 0-2-1 overall.

The two teams would battle closely throughout much of the opening half before Emmanuel College’s Amber Di Nuccie (Assonet, Mass.) would boot in her own rebound off the cross bar at the 33:41 mark.

The Saints would tack on an additional goal just minutes later as Kate McKenna (Holyoke, Mass.) would convert on a penalty kick putting Emmanuel up 2-0.

Emmanuel would continue to control much of the offense in the second half as the Saints held the 19-5 advantage in shots and held the Pilgrims to no shots on net the entire contest.

Emmanuel would tack on their third goal of the afternoon at the 65:24 mark as Elizabeth Blasser (Pembroke, Mass.) would stuff in a pass from Meghan Zerba (Cumberland, R.I.)

Picking up the shutout win in goal for the Saints was Jessica D’Ottavio (Pauling, N.Y.)  In goal for the Pilgrims was Kerry Hughes (Wallkill, N.Y.) who recorded 11 saves on the afternoon.
