Women's Soccer struggles to find the net
New England College women’s soccer struggled to find the net on Saturday afternoon losing to conference opponent Nichols College 0 in Dudley, Mass. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 5-6-1 overall and evens their Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) record to 3-3-1. With the win the Nichols College Bison improves to 7-6-0 overall and 3-5-0 in the TCCC.
Nichols College would get on the board early as Katelyn Delaney would net an unassisted goal at the 17:57 putting the Bison up 1-0. The two teams would battle evenly through the remainder of the opening half as both teams would finish with seven shots but the Bison would hold a 4-1 edge in shots on goal after 90 minutes.
Nichols would tack on two goals within four minutes of one another as Kaila Gray and Chelsea Schaughnessy would each net a goal in the opening 20 minutes of the second half extending the Bison lead to 3-0. Nichols’ Laurel Houle would tack on another Bison score with just four minutes remaining in regulation as Nichols would cruise to the 4-0 victory.
Leading the way for NEC was Debbie Lyons and Deanna Brayton who each finished with a shot on goal. In goal for the Pilgrims was Kerry Hughes who finished with nine saves on the afternoon.
