Hall of Fame/Awards
New England College (NEC) is proud to announce their 2008 inductees into the Athletic Hall of Fame. NEC will honor three former student-athletes whose outstanding character and ability have contributed to the ongoing success of the New England College Athletic Program.
A 1997 graduate and two sport athlete Caitlin Roberts will be inducted for her performance as both an athlete and as a coach while at NEC. Roberts played both women’s soccer and women’s lacrosse for four seasons at NEC. On the soccer field she played over 50 games in net for the Pilgrims collecting Commonwealth Coast Conference First Team All-Conference honors in 1994 and was named the team’s most valuable player in both 1994 and 1995.
Roberts also played women’s lacrosse while at NEC finishing her career with 122 points, including 96 goals and 26 assists. Roberts is currently third in the record books in most single-season goals finishing her senior year with 58.
After graduating in 2007 Roberts took over as the women’s lacrosse coach at NEC. Over her three seasons as head coach Roberts collected 29 wins, including a New England Women’s Lacrosse Association Championship in 1998 and a Commonwealth Coast Conference appearance in 1999.
A 2003 graduate and another two sport athlete, Jacob Stephan, will also be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
While at NEC Stephan played soccer and skied for the Pilgrims. On the soccer field Stephen played in over 40 games at the defensive position. On the slopes Stephan was named the team’s most valuable skier in both 2001 and in 2002. Stephan was named to the Eastern Collegiate Ski Conference Fist Team All-Conference in 2000-01 and was named United States Ski and Snowboard Association Northeast All-Conference in 2001-02.
In 2003 Stephan was named the recipient of NEC’s Parmenter Award given at graduation to a graduating male senior for their outstanding athletic ability and sportsmanship.
The final inductee into the NEC Athletic Hall of Fame is three-sport athlete Kathy (Menter) Jordan. Jordan graduated in 1992 and participated in field hockey, women’s basketball and softball over her four years at NEC. In field hockey Menter was named the recipient of the team’s coach’s award in 1989 and was named the team’s most valuable player in 1990.
On the hardwood Menter was named the coach’s award recipient in 1991 and in 1992 and was named team captain in 1991. Menter also helped the Pilgrims out on the softball diamond finishing her career hitting over .350 and was named the team’s most valuable player in 1992.
In 1992 Menter was honored with NEC’s Danforth Award presented at graduation to a graduating female senior for their outstanding athletic ability and sportsmanship.
The inductees will be honored during NEC’s Homecoming Weekend at the annual Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner which will be held Saturday, Oct. 4 at 6:30 p.m. on the Simon Center Lawn. For more information contact the Office of Sports Information at 603-428-2335.
