Pondering the Unthinkable
New Sculpture By Andy Moerlein
March 25 – May 1, 2014

Sculptor Andy Moerlein will fill the New England College Art Gallery with a room sized installation from March 25- May 1, 2014.  In this artistic and symbolic representation, Andy Moerlein presents a varied collection of materials in an interesting combination of textures and implied content using tar, feathers, water, wood and a fabricated stonewall to characterize concerns about the current moment in human history.

Moerlein’s work has a storyteller’s attitude – a tightrope walk between naturalism and symbolism.  For this special exhibit, Moerlein has fabricated an installation that references his recent residency in Cusco, Peru.  “Visiting a place like Peru, with a society that is thousands of years old, I am confronted by our present pace as a culture,” says Moerlein.  “What stories do we share that build towards a healthy positive community?  How can we refocus our fossil fuel based civilization and still provide the best of what current and future technology can produce?  I am unsettled that we do not have a mythic hero that will inspire us.  In this exhibit I am making evident my own feelings of our human trajectory.”

The exhibit, called “Podering the Unthinkable” will be open to the public at the New England College Art Gallery.
