Men's Ice Hockey Edged by #2 Norwich University
HENNIKER, N.H.—Norwich University men's ice hockey forward Pier-Olivier Cotnoir (Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec) would fire in the game-winner 8:55 into the third period lifting the #2 ranked Cadets past the New England College Pilgrims 2-1 Saturday afternoon.
With the win the Cadets remain undefeated on the season improving to 5-0-0 overall and 5-0-0 in ECAC East action. The loss snaps a four game winning streak for the Pilgrims dropping them to 4-2-1 on the season and 3-2-1 in the ECAC East.
The two teams would battle through a scoreless opening period of play as the Cadets would out shoot the Pilgrims 15-5.
Norwich would break the scoring drought just 4:49 into the second period of play as Travis Janke (Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan) would take advantage of a Cadet power-play netting his first goal of the season putting in a loose puck assisted by Tory Allan (Davidson, Saskatchewan) and Colin Mulvey (Worcester, Mass.)
The Pilgrims would gather the equalizer at the 16:26 mark in the second of the as Johan Qvarfordt (Sodertalje, Sweden) would poke in a pass from behind the net off the stick of Cheyne Matheson (Wheatley, Ontario).
Norwich would strike 8:55 into the third period as Pier-Olivier Cotnoir would come through with the Cadets' second power-play goal of the game assisted by Alec Thieda (Rochester Hills, Mich.) and Tory Allen.
The Cadets finished the game with the 39-23 advantage in shots on goal.
Picking up the win in net for Norwich was Chris Czarnota (Wakefield, Mass.) who finished the afternoon with 22 saves. NEC's Shawn Sirman (Blezard Valley, Ontario) recorded an impressive 37 saves for the Pilgrims.
NEC returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 1 when they travel to take on ECAC East and in-state rival St. Anselm College. Norwich University will take the ice on Friday, Nov. 23 when they host St. Thomas University in the Primelink Tournament.
