New parents John and Helen, too timid to check their baby’s gender, decide that the child is a girl and name her Daisy. The unfortunate decision leads to all manner of emotional and personality problems when Daisy turns out to be a boy. In a series of wildly hilarious scenes, Daisy attempts to establish his identity while his parents become increasingly oblivious to his plight. The audience is swept along with the brilliantly theatrical plot that includes a zany nanny and a toddler with a penchant for throwing himself in front of busses.
Durang is the author of more than 1400 one-act plays. “Baby with the Bathwater” debuted off-Broadway in 1983.
The Carriage Theatre Ensemble, initiated by students at New England College in 1991, continues to be a student-managed theatre company with faculty advisors.
