NEC Men’s Lacrosse Player James Putney Honored by the NCAS

Feb 05, 2013

HENNIKER, N.H. – New England College men’s lacrosse player James Putney (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) has been named a recipient of the Academic Momentum Award given by the Scholar Baller program in conjunction with the National Consortium for Academic and Sports (NCAS).

Putney joined 27 other male and female award winners on the NCAS First Team Academic Momentum Team.  The award is based on the level of academic improvement and the impact of that academic momentum on each nominee and his or her peers throughout the athlete’s collegiate career.

Putney was one of two athletes on the first team from a DIII institution, while the others came from DI and DII programs.

Putney transferred to New England College after a challenging semester at another institution, since stepping foot on campus Putney’s commitment to not only his team but his academics and his community has been evident.

“It is warming as a head coach when players not only embrace but embody the changes that we speak of so often,” exclaims NEC Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach, Curtis Gilbert.  “I feel that there is nobody more deserving of this award than James.”

Putney earned North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Second Team All-Conference honors last year, helping the Pilgrims to a NAC Championship and an NCAA appearance.  Putney finished second on the team in scoring with 64 points, including 32 goals and 32 assist.
