NEC Men's Lacrosse Powers Past Visiting Green Mountain College
Sixteen different Pilgrims would net goals as the New England College men’s lacrosse team would cruise past the visiting Green Mountain College Eagles 31-0 Wednesday afternoon in Henniker.
With the win the Pilgrims improve to 9-6 overall and 7-1 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play and await official seeding for the NAC Tournament. With the loss the Eagles finish their season 0-12.
The Pilgrims would explode for 13 first quarter goals and never look back as they finished the game out shooting the Eagles 58-6 and held the 47-17 advantage in ground balls.
The day was highlighted by two career Pilgrim milestones, including James Putney (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) who recorded his 100th career point and Brian Gillis (North Vancouver, B.C.) who notched his 200th career point.
Leading the way for NEC was Gillis who finished with a game-high nine goals. NEC’s Tim Reilly (Hanover, Mass.) scored three goals and dished out three assists, while AJ Aitoro (Norwalk, Conn.) finished with three goals and two assists and Chris Gomes (Sandwich, Mass.) netted three goals and had an assist for the Pilgrims.
Green Mountain’s Nate Laymon (Ilion, N.Y.) and Oliver Osnoss (Chilmark, Mass.) each record two shots for the Eagles. Green Mountain goalie Luke Carey (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded 11 saves on the afternoon.
