NEC Theatre Department Presents: Les Parents Terribles by Jean Cocteau
The New England College Theatre Department presents Jean Cocteau’s Les Parents Terribles April 15 through 17 at 7:30 p.m. and April 18 at 3:00 p.m. Performances will be held in the Mainstage Theatre on Depot Hill Road. Tickets may be reserved by calling the box office at 603-428-2382 or emailing nectheatre@nec.edu. General admission is $7; students, NEC faculty and staff, and seniors $5.
The play opens with Michael revealing that he is in love. His parents could not be more horrified, each for a different reason. His overly possessive mother cannot believe that her son could love anyone but her. His father is shocked to learn that his son’s sweetheart is his own mistress! Set in pre-WWII Paris, Les Parents Terribles portrays the ultimate dysfunctional family and allows audiences to take a second look at their own situations in a new light. Jeremy Sams’ new translation of Cocteau’s classic leaves audiences laughing even at the most intense emotional climaxes.
