NEC’s Women’s Basketball Edges Visiting Lyndon State College
HENNIKER, N.H. – New England College women’s basketball guard Kayla Lawlor (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) finished with a game-high 28 points lifting the Pilgrims past the visiting Lyndon State College Hornets 56-50 Saturday afternoon.
With the win the Pilgrims improve to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play. The loss drops the Hornets to 1-3 on the season and 0-2 in the NAC.
The two teams would battle evenly through much of the opening half before the Pilgrims would use an 8-2 run to grab their largest lead of the half up 18-10 with 7:30 remaining. The Hornets would battle back knotting the game at 20-20 with five minutes to play but NEC would close out the half on a 7-2 run to head into halftime up 27-22.
NEC would build their largest lead of the afternoon up 14 midway through the second half but Lyndon would battle back again cutting the deficit to two trailing 52-50 with 55 seconds remaining in regulation. NEC’s Lawlor would come up huge in the final minute scoring the final six Pilgrim points to solidify the 56-50 victory.
NEC’s Taylor Burgess (Randallstown, Md.) was the only other Pilgrim to score in double figures finishing with 15 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Leading the way for Lyndon State was Donna Lawson (Irasburg, Vt.) who recorded a double-double finishing with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Lyndon’s Dannika Dobrowski (Plainfield, Vt.) chipped in a team-high 12 points.
NEC returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 4 when they travel to take on non-conference opponent Albertus Magnus College. Lyndon State will hit the court on Monday, Dec. 3 when they travel to take on non-conference foe Rivier College.
