Romney Campaign Bus Visits New England College

Oct 17, 2012

Olympic Gold Medalist Scott Hamilton Meets/Greets the Crowd

Students, faculty, and staff members of New England College and local New Hampshire residents had the opportunity to engage with a celebrity supporter of Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign when Olympic Gold Medalist Scott Hamilton arrived on campus October 16th on the Romney for President campaign tour bus.

As a Romney campaign surrogate, Scott Hamilton — an American figure skater who won four United States figure skating championships, four world championships, and an Olympic Gold Medal during his career — met and addressed the crowd. Event attendees had the opportunity to interact with Hamilton and other Romney campaign staff members and take photos in front of the Romney campaign bus.

New England College provides an open venue for political candidates wishing to address Town Hall-style gatherings or moderated debates. The college is a regular stop for presidential candidates during the First in the Nation Primary. New England College’s Center for Civic Engagement was also the lead organizer for the College Convention held during the 2004, 2008, and 2012 presidential election cycles. During the 2008 and 2010 election cycles, the Center for Civic Engagement hosted numerous debates for statewide and federal offices.
