Kevin Harvey is fond of quoting nineteenth-century American philosopher William James’ admonition to, “love your subject and respect your students.” In just a few words, that describes the driving force behind Harvey’s teaching philosophy at New England College.
The recipient of the 2007 Robert A. Kilgore Faculty Award, Kevin Harvey has spent more than twenty years in NEC’s classrooms.

Jennie Leonard

Jennie Leonard came to New England College because of its history of success in sending graduates to the Actor’s Studio MFA in Acting program in New York. To date, no other college in the country has sent more students to this prestigious program. And a good decision it was! Jennie was recently accepted into the three-year intensive program offered through Pace University and is now the ninth member of the NEC community, and the third student from Laconia, New Hampshire, to attend.

The Great Pumpkin Lobotomy took place on Friday, October 24th. Well over 100 NEC students, faculty, and staff participated in carving more than 150 jack-o-lanterns, all of which were donated to the Keene Pumpkin Festival held this past weekend.

Carol Leonard, Internationally Acclaimed Midwife
-
Since graduating from New England College in 1977, Carol Leonard learned the skills of the midwife from one of New Hampshire’s traditional country doctors. Since then she has not only delivered nearly 1,200 babies successfully, but has revived the practice of midwifery in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Russia.

Over the past few months, faculty at New England College have been exploring the many ways to incorporate cutting-edge technology into their teaching. Four classrooms in the Center for Educational Innovation and several classrooms in Spaulding Hall have been fitted with ActivBoard technology, an interactive instructional tool allowing the integration of text, images, web, video, and audio content.

Celebrating the opening of the academic year, Convocation 2009 featured a keynote presentation by George Bruno, former Ambassador to Belize. Lex Scourby, NEC trustee and alumnus, has helped bring a new emergency shelter on line. Founded in 1982, Cross Roads House in Portsmouth, New Hampshire is the largest emergency and transitional shelter serving New Hampshire and southern Maine. With a capacity of 88 people, Cross Roads House provides food, shelter, and programming every day of the year.
