Kevin Harvey

Kevin Harvey is fond of quoting nineteenth-century American philosopher William James’ admonition to, “love your subject and respect your students.” In just a few words, that describes the driving force behind Harvey’s teaching philosophy at New England College. The recipient of the 2007 Robert A. Kilgore Faculty Award, Kevin Harvey has spent more than twenty years in NEC’s classrooms.

Jennie Leonard

Jennie Leonard came to New England College because of its history of success in sending graduates to the Actor’s Studio MFA in Acting program in New York. To date, no other college in the country has sent more students to this prestigious program. And a good decision it was! Jennie was recently accepted into the three-year intensive program offered through Pace University and is now the ninth member of the NEC community, and the third student from Laconia, New Hampshire, to attend.

Senatorial Debate: Shaheen & Sununu

On Tuesday, October 21, 2008, partner organizations New England Cable News, New Hampshire Public Radio, New Hampshire Public Television, PolitickerNH.com, and the Center for Civic Engagement at New England College hosted a debate between former Governor Jeanne Shaheen and U.S. Senator John Sununu.

The Great Pumpkin Lobotomy

The Great Pumpkin Lobotomy took place on Friday, October 24th. Well over 100 NEC students, faculty, and staff participated in carving more than 150 jack-o-lanterns, all of which were donated to the Keene Pumpkin Festival held this past weekend.

NEC Trustee Ned Beebe Honored

Ned Beebe, Trustee of New England College, was recently honored at the Boys and Girls Clubs national meeting in Newport, Rhode Island.

Carol Leonard, Internationally Acclaimed Midwife

Since graduating from New England College in 1977, Carol Leonard learned the skills of the midwife from one of New Hampshire’s traditional country doctors. Since then she has not only delivered nearly 1,200 babies successfully, but has revived the practice of midwifery in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Russia.

NEC Trustee John Samenfeld Honored

John Samenfeld, Trustee of New England College, was recently awarded the Eugene Van Loan III Leadership Award by Easter Seals New Hampshire.

Poet David Budbill Honored

David Budbill (poet, playwright, author, and musician) was the keynote speaker and honorary degree recipient during the Founders' Day celebration at New England College and later offered a reading of his work in the NEC Gallery.

NEC Offers New Tuition Benefits for Veterans

Michele D. Perkins, President of New England College, is pleased to announce that the College has submitted a contract to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs allowing qualified veterans to participate in the Post-9/11 GI Bill and the Yellow Ribbon Program at New England College.

Latest in Teaching Technology Comes to NEC Over the past few months, faculty at New England College have been exploring the many ways to incorporate cutting-edge technology into their teaching. Four classrooms in the Center for Educational Innovation and several classrooms in Spaulding Hall have been fitted with ActivBoard technology, an interactive instructional tool allowing the integration of text, images, web, video, and audio content.

SIXTY-THIRD CONVOCATION OF NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE – SEPTEMBER 1

The sixty-third convocation of New England College was held on Tuesday, September 1 in the College’s Field House. Celebrating the opening of the academic year, Convocation 2009 featured a keynote presentation by George Bruno, former Ambassador to Belize. Ambassador Bruno received the Doctor of Laws, honoris causa.

NEC TRUSTEE TO PERFORM IN NH PREMIERE OF “SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER: VOICES FROM BEYOND THE DARK”

On Saturday, October 17, the New Hampshire premiere of “Speak Truth to Power: Voices from Beyond the Dark,” by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright and novelist Ariel Dorfman, will be presented at the Stockbridge Theatre at Pinkerton Academy in Derry at 7:00 p.m.

Dr. Hrair Balian, accomplished lawyer and noted expert on the Middle East, will speak at New England College on Thursday, November 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the NEC Art Gallery on Main Street in Henniker. NEC Trustee and Alumnus Brings New Emergency Shelter On Line

Lex Scourby, NEC trustee and alumnus, has helped bring a new emergency shelter on line. Founded in 1982, Cross Roads House in Portsmouth, New Hampshire is the largest emergency and transitional shelter serving New Hampshire and southern Maine. With a capacity of 88 people, Cross Roads House provides food, shelter, and programming every day of the year.
