Adam Hennick (3+2) - Admission

— filed under:

Adam Hennick, a Montréal, Quebec, Canada native, first visited New England College (NEC) about five years ago when his older brother was considering enrollment. Adam’s older brother did not ultimately enroll at NEC; however, Adam left campus that day with a couple of tangible souvenirs, a Men’s Ice Hockey t-shirt and a puck, as well as a valuable intangible memento – a favorable and lasting impression of NEC.

A freshman at NEC, Adam is pursuing a major in engineering.  NEC offers a 3+2 program in engineering in conjunction with the Wallace H. Coulter School of Engineering at Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York.  Adam is confident that NEC’s academic rigor, authentic and close-knit faculty/student relationships, and experiential learning model will prepare him for whichever engineering field he ultimately chooses.  In addition to his academic pursuits, Adam is a forward on the Men’s Ice Hockey team.  He is also a Student Ambassador in the undergraduate Office of Admission and is a new Resident Advisor (RA) for the Spring 2012 semester.

Adam visited a number of colleges/universities prior to re-visiting NEC.  Unlike his previous campus visit experiences, however, Adam immediately felt at home and welcome at NEC.  Adam left Canada as a 16-year-old to attend Vermont Academy, an independent, private boarding and day school in southern Vermont.  According to Adam, NEC echoed a number of Vermont Academy’s many charms: an affable and easygoing environment, a diverse community, and a rural setting.  Adam’s advice to prospective students – “You have to experience/see the NEC campus and community for yourself.”  He adds, “Don’t be afraid to be awkward.  Introduce yourself to faculty, staff, and students.”

A model student-athlete, Adam has set the bar high for himself as he considers both his short and long term futures.  He is driven by academic excellence and his accomplishments on the ice.  Academics, however, come first, hands-down, says Adam.  While Adam’s post-secondary journey has just begun and there are still a couple of unknowns in his future, he is confident and sure of himself and looking forward to the road ahead.
