Professional Background, Scholarship Highlights
In addition to teaching, I work as business manager to space historian and best-selling author, Rod Pyle. As the former Executive Director and current member of the Steering Committee, I provide consulting services to The Mars Society, Inc. which promotes human spaceflight activities with an emphasis on the exploration and settlement of the planet Mars. The organization owns and operates two Mars analog research stations, one in the high Canadian Arctic approximately 700 nautical miles from the North Pole, and another in the desert of Utah. The scientists who use these stations conduct geological and biological exploration under conditions similar to those found on Mars and develop field tactics based on those explorations. They test habitat design features, tools, and technologies, and assess crew selection protocols based on human factors research. Ask me about managing a team of scientists!
