This certificate program is designed for craft brewing professionals who are looking to build working knowledge on the business side; brewers looking to develop business acumen; and brewery leaders looking to grow.

Our Certificate is:

Practical: Our curriculum uses case studies, exercises, and discussion to create a hands-on learning environment and provides numerous networking opportunities. The program culminates with a capstone project which aims to arm the participants with practical solutions to existing challenges.

Convenient: Taught in a hybrid format using our live, interactive virtual classroom one evening a week, from the comfort of your home or office. There is an additional online component for additional resources.

Sessions and Instructors

In an increasingly competitive market, the business of craft brewing is at the forefront of growth opportunities.  This certificate is a unique, 12-week program that is taught by experts within the craft brewing industry.  The major topics covered throughout the program include:

  • Foundation, Evolution and Trends of the Craft Brewing Industry (week 1)
  • Branding, Creating an Identity (week 2)
  • Finance Crash Course (week 3)
  • Social Media, Creating a Marketing Strategy (week 4)
  • Hiring and Personnel (week 5)
  • Strategic Planning (week 6)
  • Distribution (week 7)
  • Sales and Self Distribution (week 8)
  • Events and Community Service (week 9)
  • The Flow of Business Operations, Pulling it Together (week 10)
  • Capstone Presentations to the Class and a Panel of Experts (weeks 11 & 12)

Program Outcomes

  • Learn current trends of the craft brewing industry.
  • Work with experts within the field of craft brewing.
  • Learn, explore various brewery models.
  • Develop skills in branding, social media, sales, distribution, tap room and events management.
  • Use critical and creative thinking to address opportunities within their own organization.
  • Utilize case studies and practical exercises to illustrate and analyze previous and current craft brewing operations
  • CAPSTONE PROJECT: You will be required to identify and provide a possible solution to a current challenge your organization is facing, a process improvement or identify an innovative approach to your current business model. You will be asked to present your solution to your peers as well as provide a written executive summary.
