The 1st annual NEN Conference invites storytellers, writers, theorists, students and academics to submit proposals for the first annual New England Narrative Conference on the theme Giving Voice: Narrative for Social Change. The conference will bring together approximately 60 individuals to collaboratively explore the role of narrative as a tool for social action. We are particularly interested in individuals who are interested in being part of a sustained conversation with others who actively engaged in promoting the role of narrative as a tool for social change.

Proposals are invited from individuals interested in collaborative discussions for a Round Table Discussion or Poster Presentation format. We are especially interested in hearing from practitioners who engage in narrative concerning: the environment, indigenous culture, immigrant and refugee oral histories, “stories to action,” and case studies in the disciplines.

Please use the New England Narrative Conference link on the NEC website (www.nec.edu) to access “Call for Proposals” guidelines and application.

Proposals will be accepted from February 15, 2013 to March 30, 2013. Notification of acceptance will be made by April 15, 2013.

Round Table Discussion Format: The Round Table Discussion format is designed to place together a maximum of six presenters who have overlapping and/or similar themes in their specific areas of focus. Each presenter will be given ten minutes to summarize their work prior to a Round Table Discussion with other presenters. The goal of the Round Table Discussion is to foster a dynamic conversation that creates a collaborative story promoting a drive for action.

Poster Presentation Format:  Poster Presentations will be available for viewing throughout the day, with a designated time set aside for conversations with the presenters.
