“Attending New England College to achieve my Master’s degree in Community Mental Health Counseling was a big decision as an adult who had been in the work force for 20 + years.

Upon graduation I was able to achieve a job in a local community mental health center as a therapist and, over the past 13 years, have worked as a therapist in a psychiatric hospital, a clinical coordinator in a community mental health center, and as a senior clinician overseeing other therapists.

New England College provided me with an excellent education because the faculty were from the community who had been doing the work. My degree from New England College has made a world of difference in my life.”

“The Mental Health Counseling program at NEC is hands-down the best master’s program I’ve been through. I worked in higher education administration for 15 years, have 3 master’s degrees from 3 different institutions and teach graduate level classes at another, so I can offer this opinion with some authority.

When I was in the internship portion of the program, it was abundantly clear that I was much more prepared than the 7 other interns at the same site. I was assigned cases sooner, carried a larger caseload and ultimately was asked to join the team as a full time clinician 6 months prior to graduation. I worked for about 3 years in community mental health and earned my LCMHC and MLADC in that time.

Thanks to my preparation at NEC, I passed each licensing exam on the first try. Now I work in a moderately-sized group practice providing individual and group counseling for the dually diagnosed population and am affiliated with local and state drug abuse and addiction agencies. I teach graduate students in the mental health counseling program at a local school, and I provide supervision to interns and post-graduates seeking licensure.

The program at NEC was structured in such a way that I was able to maintain full time employment, which was an essential factor in deciding which school to attend. Though a small school, NEC contracted with some of the best practitioners in the region who were incredibly gifted instructors. Even today, my experiences at NEC inform what I do as a clinical mental health and addictions practitioner.”
