New England College Hosts Former Presidential Candidate Jon Huntsman
As part of its high profile Speaker Series, New England College today hosts former United States Ambassador and Governor of Utah, Jon Huntsman. Ambassador Huntsman was a presidential candidate in the 2012 primary election cycle.
Huntsman is a familiar face at New England College, visiting twice during the 2012 New Hampshire presidential primary cycle. He led a town hall meeting on campus and won the 2012 College Convention presidential straw poll. Students responded positively to his pragmatic approach to public policy and appreciated his experience as a successful businessman.
As part of its ongoing commitment to civic engagement, New England College hosts many events like this local Speaker Series, national College Convention, and debates at all levels. Its Polling Institute has become a popular resource for national and local media. NEC is also a home to many seeking a Masters in Public Policy.
“New Hampshire’s unique role as First in the Nation provides incredible opportunities for students in all areas of study,” said Dr. Wayne Lesperance, Professor of Political Science. “Huntsman’s visit to New England College is the latest in a series of events that connects our students with practitioners of public policy. His record as Governor of Utah and Ambassador to China make him a very interesting and compelling speaker.”
Students are known to rally around all unique visits. “I am delighted for the opportunity to introduce Ambassador Huntsman to faculty and students,” said New England College sophomore Amanda Biundo, who also leads the College Republican club. “Our campus is fortunate to attract and host so many intriguing leaders. We look forward to hearing Ambassador Huntsman’s thoughts on the global economy and how the United States can best prepare for the future.”
Jon Huntsman will address students, faculty, staff and community members in the Simon Center Great Room in the center of New England College’s campus.
