The New Hampshire Insurance Department and New England College have announced they will partner for the second year of a course aimed at teaching students about insurance and providing staffing for the industry.

Scheduled to commence in the Spring 2024 semester, the four-credit course offers students the prospect of an internship for additional academic credit. Successful completion of the course and internship could lead to the waiver of the insurance licensing exam for students, the department said.

The curriculum encompasses essential topics, including the rationale behind individual or corporate insurance purchases, the elements of an intelligent insurance plan, the products available in the insurance marketplace, and the regulatory oversight by the NHID. The course will delve into risk nature, risk identification, general risk management techniques, and the art of risk management through insurance.

The course will be taught by employees from the insurance department.

New England College is a private liberal arts college in Henniker, New Hampshire.

“Our mission is to promote and protect the public good by ensuring a safe and competitive insurance marketplace,” said Insurance Commissioner DJ Bettencourt. “Attracting highly educated individuals into the industry is crucial for the health of our markets and the advancement of consumer protection efforts.”
