Commencement 2008
NEC's 61st Commencement ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 10 at 11:00 a.m. in the Lee Clement Arena.  This year's keynote speaker will be author, activist, and lecturer Loung Ung, who will also receive an honorary degree at the ceremony.  Other honorary degree recipients include poet Galway Kinnell and writer, educator, and political worker Radhakant Nayak.  For more information, or to see the full schedule of Commencement events, click here.

 

 

UPCOMING EVENTS:

NEC CJ Club: Profiling Violent Offenders & Sexual Violence on Campuses
On Wednesday, May 28, the NEC Criminal Justice Club will host a presentation in cooperation with the NHTI CJ Club on Profiling Violent Offenders & Sexual Violence on Campuses from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at NHTI in Concord (Sweeney Auditorium).  The instructor for the event will be Mr. Michael Napier, FBI (Ret.), Behaviorial Specialist and Profiler from the FBI offices in Quantico, VA and the National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime. This program contains real-life cases and graphic content. 2007-2008 Edition of Inkslinger Now Available
The Writing Department is pleased to announce the release of the 2007-2008 edition of the inkslinger. The inkslinger is an annual publication of first year student writing at New England College. Essays are selected for publication in order to best represent the excellence and the diversity found within the First-Year Writing Program. This year’s contributors are: Matthew Anderson, Christopher Buker, Taylor Deming, Leanne DeRosa, Shana Elburn, Trevor Greene, John Hanks, Kim Hanrahan, Myles Jeffers, William Johnson, Jennifer Kruczynski, Megan McGowen, Chris Parker, Amanda Peterson, Catherine Poirier, Dave Richardson,  Jieling Shang, Natasha Stoyak, and Amanda Whalen.


Concord Shuttle Service
There will be shuttle service to Concord every Friday from 5:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. (bus leaves from the front of Simon).  Sign up in advance at the Student Involvement Office, Rm. 111 in Charter Hall.


 

SPORTS NEWS:

NEC Women’s Lacrosse Season Wrap-up
New England College women’s lacrosse finished their 2008 campaign with an overall record of 4-12 and a Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) record of 3-5. The Pilgrims earned their fifth consecutive TCCC post-season berth this season slipping in as the #8 seed. The Pilgrims faced off against the #1 ranked Endicott College Gulls in the TCCC opening round falling to the eventual conference champions 14-25. The Pilgrims did earn some huge victories this season avenging last season’s playoff loss to Colby-Sawyer beating the Chargers 10-9 this season and edged Norwich University in overtime 12-10.

NEC was led by junior attacker Emily Tanguay (Manchester, N.H.) who was named to the TCCC All-Honorable Mention Team for her performance this season. Tanguay finished first on the team in scoring with 49 points including a team-high 39 goals and 10 assists.

Midfielder Jodie Dresser (Keene, N.H.) finished tied for second in scoring with 36 points on 29 goals and seven assists. Dresser led the team in draw controls with 41 and caused turnovers with 26 on the season. Attack Casey MacFarland (Webster, N.H.) also finished with 36 points including 23 goals and a team-high 13 assists. MacFarland wled the team with 58 ground balls and was second in both draw controls with 29 and cause turnovers finishing the season with 26.

Rounding out the Pilgrim offense this season was Brandi Vittum (Woodstock, Vt.) who started all 16 games for NEC on attack and finished second on the team in goals with 33 on the season. Leading the defense for the Pilgrims was junior Jeannine Wood (Peabody, Mass.) Wood played in all 16 games for NEC and led all defensive players with 32 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers. Senior Chelsea Bennett (New Glasgow, Nova Scotia) also saw time on defense for the Pilgrims and finished with seven goals and seven assists. Danielle O’Leary (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and Stephanie Currant (Wakefield, Mass.) each saw the bulk of their time on defense for NEC and each finished the season with 24 ground balls.

Anchoring the Pilgrim defense in net was sophomore transfer Alexandria DiRico (Limerick, Pa.) DiRico played in all 16 games for the Pilgrims finished the season with 211 saves.
