NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE ANNOUNCES ADVISORY BOARD FOR COLLEGE CONVENTION 2012

The Center for Civic Engagement at New England College, organizer of College Convention 2012, announces the formation of an Advisory Board of local, regional, and national leaders. The Board includes members of the media and representatives from the business, education, legal, and political communities. Dr. Wayne F. Lesperance, Jr., Director of the Center for Civic Engagement and Professor of Political Science at New England College states, “The Advisory Board is made up of a group of distinguished individuals who have demonstrated a strong commitment to informed citizenship – one of the primary goals of College Convention. As leaders in their fields, they offer a specialized insight that will help to shape the programming for College Convention and enhance the experience of all those who attend.”

According to Lesperance, members of the College Convention Advisory Board will play a key role in helping to communicate the College Convention message. “As role models, members of the Advisory Board demonstrate their commitment to civic engagement to hundreds of young voters across the country. Their involvement in a wide range of contemporary issues and topics will inspire a new generation of voters. We are grateful for their participation in College Convention and their willingness to help promote this unique learning experience.”

College Convention 2012 will be held January 3 through 6 at the Grappone Center in Concord, New Hampshire. Over three days, young voters will have an opportunity to hear directly from presidential candidates and surrogates in a convention-like setting. Programming for College Convention 2012 will include presentations, issue forums, workshops, and panel discussions. “This is a first-hand experience with the workings of democracy,” notes Lesperance. “Not only do participants in College Convention have an opportunity to hear from those who aspire to our nation’s highest office, their direct interaction with candidates and their representatives helps to inform future leaders on society’s most pressing concerns.”
