Advising Mission Statement

The New England College Advising Program is designed to:

     •    offer students encouragement, advice, and support;

     •    challenge students;

     •    assist students in realizing the full potential of their

          academic opportunities;

     •    help students as they create meaningful educational plans

          that are compatible with their own strengths and emerging

          goals;

     •    and to enable students to assess their academic progress.

NEC uses a developmental advising model. The active member in the advisor/advisee relationship shifts over time.  Advisors are expected to initiate contact with first-year students to encourage them to participate in advising activities.  By senior year, the student should be the one to initiate contact, and should be able to independently develop strategies and set goals.
