NEC Students Explore Marine Life in Belize

Study away is an integral part of the academic experience for New England College students. Over the winter break, students from NEC can be found around the globe and even…under water. Dr. Eric Simon and Dr. Debra Dunlop organized a ten-day trip to Belize as a learning experience for the Tropical Marine Biology course. Fourteen NEC students conducted field experiments and participated in service activities. This year’s trip marked the second study trip to explore the marine environment off the coast of Belize. Just to make sure that all participants would be comfortable in their aquatic landscape, the group paid a visit to the pool at the Manchester YMCA to practice their underwater skills.

Check out Dr. Eric Simon’s blog at http://NECBelize.blogspot.com to read about and see pictures of the students’ explorations. Videos from last year’s trip are also posted to the site.
