Gulls take two from Pilgrims
New England College softball dropped two games to Endicott College Monday afternoon in Beverly. The Pilgrims had plenty of opportunities in game one but fell to the Gulls 7-1 and struggled to get runners on base in game two losing 8-0. The losses drop the Pilgrims to 3-13 on the season and 2-6 in the TCCC.
In game one NEC go off to a nice start as four of the first five batters reached base but Endicott would do well defensively allowing just one run. Endicott would go on to score a single run in every inning except for the fourth when they would score two runs. The Pilgrims would have nine hits throughout the game but the Gulls would get NEC off the board cruising to the 7-1 victory.
Leading the way for NEC was Amanda Lester who finished with two hits. NEC’s Liz Ross would single and have a run scored and Samantha Hallam would double for the Pilgrims. On the mound for NEC was Bethany Forshaw who allowed six earned runs on 11 hits while striking out four.
The Pilgrims would struggle offensively in game two mustering just three hits in six innings of play. The Gulls would take the early lead exploding for six runs in the bottom of the first including a grand slam from Ashley Wright. Endicott would tack on two runs in the bottom of the six capturing the 8-0 mercy-rule win.
