NEC men’s soccer allowed two first half goals as Keene State shutout the Pilgrims 2-0 Tuesday evening in both teams’ season opener.

Keene State did not waste much time getting on the board as Shawn Shand would score a break-away goal just 3:48 into the opening half.  Keene State would continue to control much of the offense in the opening half outshooting the Pilgrims 14-3.  The Owls would tack on their second goal with just 1:26 remaining in the opening half as Phil Petrozzi would strike a ball just under the cross bar putting the Owls up 2-0 heading into halftime.

Keene’s offense would continue to dominate in the second half as the Owls would get off 15 shots but the Pilgrim defense would stand strong holding them to just four shots on net.  NEC’s best scoring opportunity would come at the 37:34 mark in the second half as first-year midfielder Taylor Federici (S. Dartmouth, Mass.) would strike a shot off a Pilgrim corner but Keene goalie Tom Conran would make the save solidifying the 2-0 victory.

In net for the Pilgrims was first-year keeper TJ Doyle (Harwinton, Conn.) who recorded six saves on the evening.

NEC returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 5 when they travel to take on Elms College at 1:00 p.m.
