Newbury College’s John Rowley, Jr. (Hartford, Conn.) finished with a team-high 19 points leading the Nighthawks past the New England College Pilgrims 83-67 Thursday evening. With the win the Nighthawks even their overall record at 2-2, while the loss drops the Pilgrims to 1-7 on the season.


 

The Nighthawks would score the first three points of the game before the Pilgrims would use a 14-0 run to go up 14-3 just seven minutes into the opening half.  Newbury would answer using a 12-2 run of their own cutting New England College’s lead to just 16-15 with 10:27 on the clock.  The two teams would settle down and battle back-and-forth through the remainder of the half as Newbury would hold the one point lead heading into halftime up 34-33.

 

The second half would belong to the Nighthawks who would jump out to an early seven point lead up 49-42 within the opening five minutes of the second half.  Newbury would shoot an impressive 67% from the field in the second half leading by as many as 19 with just under eight minutes remaining in regulation.  The Pilgrims would cut the lead to 13 but that is as close as they would get as the Newbury would cruise to the 83-67 victory.

 

Newbury’s Samuel Stanford (Somerville, Mass.) and Kevin Cleveland (Lynn, Mass.) each finished with 14 points for the Nighthawks.  Newbury’s Walky Magloire (Waltham, Mass.) chipped in 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Nighthawks.

 

NEC was led by Shane Hennessey (Plymouth, England) who finished with 17 points and 16 rebounds.  NEC’s Jamie Davies (Plymouth, England) scored a 19 points and Rafael Salado (Boston, Mass.) finished with a team-high 21 points.
