New England College would net two goals in the opening period of play helping to lift them past the visiting Wesleyan University Cardinals 2-1 Saturday afternoon. The win snaps a two game losing streak for the Pilgrims who improve to 10-4-0 overall. The loss drops the Cardinals to 2-11-0 on the season.

NEC would strike early as Johan Granath (Stockholm, Sweden) would score his second goal of the season assisted by Jared Mullen (Roanoke, Va.) and Olli Kalliosaari (Hattula, Finland) just 31 seconds into the opening period.  The Pilgrims would extend their lead to 2-0 minutes later as Mark Ehl (N. Vancouver, British Columbia) would push in a loose puck assisted by Alex Muse (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Jon Globke (W. Bloomfield, Mich.) at the 8:15 mark.

The two teams would battle through the majority of the second period scoreless before Wesleyan’s Sam Robinson (Winchester, Mass.) would get the Cardinals on the board netting his second goal of the season assisted by David Layne (Flourtown, Pa.) with just 3:30 remaining in the period.

NEC would hold on to the 2-1 lead heading into the final period.  The Wesleyan offense would have several opportunities late out shooting NEC 12-8 in the third but the Pilgrim defense would stand strong holding on for the 2-1 victory.

Picking up the win in net for NEC was Aaron Harvey (Milford, Nova Scotia) who recorded 26 saves on the afternoon.  In net for Wesleyan was Mike Palladino (Litchfield, Conn.) who finished with an impressive 33 saves.
