Men's lacrosse captures first win of 2008

New England College men’s lacrosse picked up their first win of 2008 edging the Nichols College Bison 7-5 Saturday afternoon in Dudley. With the win the Pilgrims improve to 1-4 on the season and even their conference record to 1-1.


 

Nichols College would get on the board first scoring with 5:25 remaining in the first quarter to take the early 1-0 lead.  The Pilgrims would respond as Cory Love would score just over three minutes later sending the two teams into the second quarter knotted at 1-1.  NEC’s Colin Gordon would score just under two minutes into the second quarter to put the Pilgrims up 2-1 but Nichols would answer scoring three unanswered goals in the final 12 minutes of the second quarter to head into halftime up 4-2.

 

The Pilgrims would control much of the third period as NEC would outscore Nichols 4-1 and head into the final quarter with the one goal lead, up 6-5.  Nichols College would have several opportunities late out shooting the Pilgrims 6-2 in the final quarter but it would NEC who would grab the lone goal of the quarter as Cory Love would score with 6:30 remaining in regulation giving the Pilgrims the 7-5 victory.

 

Leading the way for NEC was Colin Gordon and Cory Love who each scored two goals.  NEC’s Matt Vozzolo netted a goal and dished out two assists, while Kyle Burke scored a goal and picked up an assist for the Pilgrims.  Picking up the win in goal was Nick Acquaviva who finished the afternoon with 11 saves.
