New England College men’s lacrosse fell to the ninth ranked Western New England College Golden Bears 18-4 Thursday afternoon in Springfield. With the win the Golden Bears remain undefeated in conference play improving to 4-0 and 7-2 overall. The loss snaps a three-game winning streak for the Pilgrims who even their conference record at 3-3 and are 5-5 overall.

The Golden Bears jumped out to an early lead scoring the first nine goals of the match before NEC’s Ryan Von Uffle (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) would get the Pilgrims on the board scoring with 7:16 left in the opening half.

The WNEC offense would continue to control the tempo of the game in the second half of play building an 18-2 lead with nine minutes remaining in the final quarter.  The Pilgrims would net two man-up goals late in the contest but the Golden Bears would cruise to the 18-4 victory.

NEC’s John Gabriel (West Nyack, N.Y.) and Matt Carey (Somers, Conn.) each scored a goal and dished out an assist for the Pilgrims.  In goal for NEC was Nick Acquaviva (Syracuse, N.Y.) who finished with eight saves.
