Men's Lacrosse falls to Plymouth State in final minutes
Plymouth State University scored two goals with just under five minutes in regulation to lift them past the New England College Pilgrims 8-7 Thursday evening in Plymouth. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 4-10 on the season.
NEC’s Matt Vozzolo would start the scoring early netting the first goal just 10 seconds into the opening quarter. Vozzolo would continue to dominate scoring two additional goals throughout the first quarter to put the Pilgrims up 3-0 with 2:32 remaining in the first. Plymouth State would get on the board scoring a goal with just 34 seconds left in the first and cut the Pilgrim lead to just 3-2 scoring just minutes into the second quarter.
The two teams would exchange goals late in the second quarter including a power-play goal by NEC’s Cory Love sending the Pilgrims into halftime with the 4-3 advantage. Plymouth State would grab their first lead of the afternoon scoring two goals early in the third quarter. NEC would respond regaining their one goal lead scoring a goal late in the third and early in the fourth leading 6-5 with 6:15 remaining in regulation.
The two teams would exchange goals over the next minute but Plymouth’s Steve Engel would net two unanswered goals in the final 4:44 to capture the 8-7 come-from-behind win.
Leading the way for NEC was Matt Vozzolo who finished with three goals and Dillon Lantz who netted a goal and dished out two assists. In goal for the Pilgrims was Nick Acquaviva who finished with 19 saves.
