Men's Soccer extends unbeaten streak to six
NEC exploded for five fist half goals in route to a 7-0 shutout win over the visiting Regis College Pride Wednesday afternoon in Henniker. With the win the Pilgrim extended their unbeaten streak to six games improving to 4-2-2 overall. The loss drops the Pride to 0-8-1 on the season.
The Pilgrims wouldn’t waste much time as forward Dean Smith (Schwenksville, Pa.) and midfielder Kagan Sinclair (Marblehead, Mass.) would each net a goal in the opening 12 minutes putting the Pilgrims up 2-0. NEC would tack on three additional goals in the opening half including a breakaway by Kwasi Acheampong (Webster, Mass.) as the Pilgrims would head into halftime up 5-0.
Acheampong would strike again heading a pass from Johnny Willner (Bethesda, Md.) just minutes into the second half extending the Pilgrim lead to 6-0. NEC’s Cody Collard (New Haven, Conn.) would net his first collegiate goal late in the game at the 81:23 mark as NEC would cruise to the 7-0 win.
Leading the way for NEC was Acheampong who finished with two goals and Willner who dished out two assists. Leading the way for Regis College was Zareh Zurabyan (Boston, Mass.) and Josh Fidalgo (Boston, Mass.) who each had a shot on goal.
Picking up the shutout win in goal for the Pilgrims was Pat Harkin (Scituate, R.I.) who finished with two saves on the afternoon. In goal for the Pride was Andrew LaMacchia (Lynn, Mass.) who finished with an impressive 20 saves.
New England College will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 27 when they travel to take on conference opponent Curry College at 7:30 p.m. Regis College will travel to take on conference opponent Nichols College on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 5:00 p.m.
